If you live in or near Boston, or if you visit Boston, you really ought to learn more about Arts/Boston. This is an operation committed to building audiences for theater, for dance, and for live music. They do it by functioning as essentially a ticket-agency. However, unlike any other ticket agent in town, these people charge you LESS than box-office prices, not more. If you are in Boston and want to see or hear anything that very day, you can walk up to either of their two BosTix kiosks located at Faneuil Hall Marketplace (adjacent to Houlihan's Restaurant) and at Copley Square (Boylston and Dartmouth Streets). And if you're going to Boston, you can get a partial list of what they're selling by checking the BosTix website. Most tickets are half-price, but some contracts won't allow them to advertise on the internet. If, on the other hand, you like to think ahead, you should subscribe to ARTS/Mail. This system lets you fill out a coupon, mail it in, and get reduced-price tickets mailed back to you. You can save as little as 75 cents or as much as $13.25 per ticket this way. Try it! Once you get one of their monthly catalogs, the centerfold pages will explain how to do it, and you can xerox the pages of order-coupons and order as many bargains as you'd like.
