Tuesday, 8 November, 1999: "Two Letters from Bruce"

These will be the first and the last letters from Bruce Gellerman you will be able to read in The Theater Mirror. I will not intrude upon his privacy or endanger a friendship important to me in this way. But I breached that privacy once already with another Cricket's Notebook entry (Thursday, 14 October, 1999: "A Nite Out With Bruce") and now the man himself had a few corrections and comments to make about it. The fact that someone so busy sends ME e-mail is still a source of wonder and pride whenever I think of it. Here's what Bruce had to say:

I love it....he had a DENTIST appointment and couldn't do your ORAL history interview....

i NEVER cancel my interviews except on even days and odd days that end in "Y"...

BUT yesterday i did go to the Coop Theater..or Theater Coop... [ Bruce means The Theatre Cooperative; I get that one wrong all the time too. =ls ] and interviewd Leslie Chapman, Brandon Hughes and Brett whats'his name...the director of their new play. it was great..a wonderful experience and an important story. turns out...the play's NOT the thing!

HA!
ok, so my posture is poor...and my pouch is paucer... THANKS for the rave and very accurate depiction. Man, nothing escapes your eye or ear. I gotta watch what i say to you.

one minor inaccuracy..it was the baltics that I met yulia..and i was on assignment but not working for npr as a correspondent at the time..i was w/ 'bur by then.

as for being surprised about going to the theater and working...I"M ALWAYS WORKING. that's the problem...i can't turn off the vaccuum...it's a real problem.

as for getting two pieces about theater on a month... doing a story outside of the station takes about 10 hours for each minute of air time....and that's a conservative estimate! We produce almost 1100 minutes of radioa month...even einstein would have trouble with this math.
love,
b
